Every rug
- Construction and fibre identified
- Dry soil removal, both faces
- Colourfastness tested first
- A written method before we start
Wool, cotton, jute, hand-knotted and machine made rugs, cleaned on site or collected, washed, dried and returned, across the Perth metro area, by a method chosen for what the rug actually is.
Some rugs we will not wet at all. Viscose and art silk are on that list, and we tell you before you book.
Because it is complete in itself. Your carpet is fixed to the house, while a rug has its own edges, fringe and backing, and its own ways of failing.
Rugs also rarely carry useful care instructions, so the cleaner has to work out the fibre and construction by looking. That is a real skill, and it is where most of the damage in this trade comes from.
For fitted carpet, see our carpet cleaning page. This page is about the loose rugs on top of it.
We do both. Most machine made and many wool rugs suit an on-site clean in your home.
Some rugs do better with a full wash off site: heavily soiled rugs, pet accidents that have reached the foundation, matted fringes, and rugs that need a controlled drying run rather than a few hours on your floor.
For those we collect the rug, wash it, dry it and bring it back. We tell you which route suits from the photos, before you book.
On-site cleaning or an off-site wash, chosen from how the rug is made.
Step 01
The back tells us more than the front: knots, a woven foundation, or a latex layer with a second cloth glued on. Send the fringe and a corner too, plus any label.
Step 02
Some rugs we clean on site, some we collect for a full wash, and some we decline outright. You get that call before any money is discussed.
Step 03
Colourfastness on a hidden corner before anything wet goes anywhere visible. Dry soil comes out first, because grit in the foundation is most of the wear.
Step 04
On site, we raise the rug and move air across both faces so your boards stay dry. Off site, it dries fully before it comes back to you.
Viscose, mostly. It is also sold as art silk, bamboo silk or banana silk, and it is in a lot of Perth homes.
Viscose is very sensitive to water. Wetting it can leave the pile permanently matted, stained or yellowed, and rubbing it damages the pile for good.
Many sellers of these rugs tell owners never to wet them. If the people who sold it say do not wet it, we are not going to wet it.
Wool and handspun jute need care too. Too much water or heat can shrink wool and brown jute, which is why we use as little moisture as the rug allows.
Four boundaries, stated before you book.
Not on site and not in a wash. Viscose and art silk are declined, and we tell you before you book.
Pest treatment is a licensed trade in WA, and it is not ours. Clean, regularly vacuumed textiles are simply less attractive to insects.
Reweaving a damaged border, resecuring a fringe and valuing an antique are three separate trades. We clean, and we can point you towards the rest.
We clean rugs. We do not promise anything about allergies, air quality or sanitising.
Turn it over. The back answers almost everything.
A hand-knotted rug has its pile knotted by hand. On the back you see the pattern repeated knot by knot, slightly irregular, with the fringe running out of the foundation rather than sewn on.
A tufted rug has its pile punched into a base fabric, held with latex, and covered with a second backing cloth glued over the top. That latex ages, and flooding it can make the two backings separate.
Fringes are the other tell. On a hand-knotted rug they are usually the ends of the foundation threads, so they are structural, which is why they discolour differently to the pile and are the part most easily ruined.
Six reasons, one line each.
Each rug is quoted after we have seen it, from photos or on site. Here is what moves the number.
A small machine made rug is a quick job. A large hand-knotted wool rug takes longer and needs more care.
Rugs that need a low moisture method, or whose dyes need testing in several places, take more time. An off-site wash includes collection and return.
Heavy soiling, pet accidents and a matted fringe each add work, and we list them on the quote.
Send photos of the front, the back, a corner and the fringe, plus the size. We will tell you whether it suits an on-site clean or an off-site wash, and what it will cost.
The rug is usually sitting on something that also needs doing.

After a leak reaches a wool rug, where time matters. Water damage
The Perth metro area, from Joondalup to Rockingham, and Mandurah. Not on the list? Send your suburb and you will hear back the same day.
Coastal salt air and beach sand impact properties heavily here. Window tracks, exterior glass, and flyscreens need regular washing to stop salt corrosion.
A mix of commercial high rises, character homes, and modern units. Jarrah floor care and delicate limestone work are common across these areas.
Large family properties and industrial facilities. Paved alfresco spaces and bore reticulation mean pressure washing is regularly booked alongside a house clean.
Sometimes, depending on the rug. Many wool and natural fibre rugs do better with a cool, controlled clean than hot water, and viscose should not be wetted at all. We check what you have before agreeing to a method.
Because water can permanently damage the pile, and many sellers warn owners never to wet them. Taking your money to do something the seller warned against is not a service.
Often not, or one that says little. That is why we work from the construction rather than from a tag.
Because different jobs are sold under one name. A quick extraction on your floor and a full off-site wash with collection and return are both right for some rugs, and they cost very different amounts.
For a cheap machine made rug with a synthetic pile, possibly. For anything wool, hand-knotted, jute or viscose, no: a hire machine puts in plenty of water with little control over getting it back out.
Worth cleaning before it goes down in your home. Send photos of the back and we will tell you whether it suits an on-site clean or an off-site wash.
We will not promise that, and we cannot treat for them. Regular vacuuming and cleaning make a rug less attractive to insects, and an infestation needs a licensed pest technician.
We stay until it's right
Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work. For end of lease cleans, if you're not satisfied and tell us within 72 hours, we come back and re-clean.
Send your suburb, the size, and photos of the front, the back, a corner and the fringe. You will get a straight answer on whether it suits an on-site clean or an off-site wash, a method in writing and a price.
