Shining Services cleaner at work in Melbourne

Carpet Cleaning Services in Melbourne

Carpet that gets dirty faster after a clean was never properly rinsed. Detergent left in the pile pulls soil straight back, and the rinse is the slowest part of the job.

We rinse until the water runs clear, which takes longer and costs more. Wool and synthetic get different chemistry, and we check which you have first. Quoted by room after we have seen it.

  • Rinsed properly, so it stays clean longer
  • Fibre checked before any product goes down
  • Real drying time, not a hopeful guess

What is hot water extraction, and why does it matter?

Hot solution goes into the pile under pressure and comes straight back out with the soil. It is the method we use on every fitted carpet.

The part that decides the result is the rinse. Every pass after the detergent is there to pull the chemistry back out, and it is the slowest part of the job.

Residue is why carpet re-soils fast. Detergent left in the fibre stays sticky and grabs the next fortnight of foot traffic.

Loose rugs are a different job entirely. See rug cleaning in Melbourne, and for lounges see upholstery cleaning.

Is your carpet wool or synthetic?

Melbourne has plenty of both, often in the same suburb.

Wool

Common in period homes through the inner east and Bayside. Needs pH neutral chemistry, because strong alkaline products damage the fibre permanently.

Synthetic

Nylon, polypropylene and blends, standard in newer estate homes. Tolerates stronger cleaning and holds up to hotter water.

Wool blends

The one that catches people out. Treated as wool, because the wool content is what takes the damage if anyone guesses wrong.

We test the fibre before anything goes down. It takes a minute and it is the difference between a clean carpet and a yellowed one.

What happens on the day?

Four stages, and two of them are just removing what we put in.

Inspect and test

  • Fibre identified
  • Colourfastness tested out of sight
  • Existing damage photographed
  • Stains identified by type
  • Realistic result explained

Dry soil first

  • Full vacuum before any water
  • Edges and corners worked
  • Under moveable furniture
  • Pet hair lifted
  • Grit removed rather than wetted

Treat and extract

  • Deep steam extraction
  • Traffic lanes pre-sprayed
  • Tough stain removal by type
  • Agitated before extracting
  • Deodorising where needed

Rinse and dry

  • Rinsed until the water runs clear
  • Extracted until barely damp
  • Air movers where the room is cold
  • Underlay checked, not just pile
  • Real walk-on time given

The grey line where carpet meets the skirting is filtration soiling, caused by air pulling dust through the gap. It needs edge tools rather than a wand, and it is quoted separately when it is heavy.

How long before you can walk on it?

Longer than you might think in a Melbourne winter.

  1. Step 01

    Extracted hard

Slow extraction passes pull back as much water as we can, so the pile is left damp rather than wet.

  2. Step 02

    Airflow, not patience

Air movers run through the job in winter rather than being set up as we leave.

  3. Step 03

    Underlay checked

Damp pile dries fast. Damp underlay does not, and that is what smells three weeks later.

  4. Step 04

A real time, not a guess

We tell you when furniture can go back rather than saying a few hours and leaving.

Why is Melbourne carpet harder to get right?

Two reasons. The housing stock is split down the middle, and the weather works against drying for five months.

  • Wool through the older suburbs. Period homes across the inner east and Bayside were carpeted in wool, and strong alkaline products yellow it permanently
  • Synthetic in the growth corridors. Newer estate homes run nylon and polypropylene, which take a much harder clean than wool ever will
  • May to September. A closed cold house will not dry a carpet on its own, and damp underlay is what causes a musty room weeks later
  • Winter grit. Five wet months of foot traffic bring in a fine abrasive grit that cuts the fibre if it is left in the pile

Getting the fibre wrong is permanent. Getting the drying wrong is expensive. Both are avoidable in about a minute of checking.

Why does carpet get dirty faster after cleaning?

Four things worth knowing before you book.

Carpet cleaning in Melbourne fails at the rinse, not the clean

Detergent left in the pile stays sticky and grabs the next fortnight of foot traffic. That is why a carpet can look worse a month after cleaning than it did before. Rinsing is the slowest part of the job. We keep going until the recovery water runs clear, which usually means an extra pass through every room.

Wool and synthetic carpet in Melbourne need different chemistry

Period homes across the inner east and Bayside were carpeted in wool, and strong alkaline products yellow it permanently. Newer estate homes run nylon and polypropylene, which take a far harder clean. Wool blends are the ones that catch people out, so we treat them as wool. Testing the fibre takes a minute and the damage from guessing cannot be reversed.

Melbourne winter is why carpet stays damp for days

A closed cold house from May to September will not dry a carpet on its own. The pile feels fine within hours while the underlay underneath holds water far longer. That is what makes a room smell musty three weeks after it was cleaned. We extract hard, run air movers during the job, and give you a real time for putting furniture back.

Some marks in Melbourne carpet are damage, not soil

Bleach, some medications, plant food and a few dyes change the colour of the fibre itself. No cleaning reverses that. Sun fade along a north facing window is the same story. We tell you which marks will lift and which will not before we start, rather than after you have paid.

If your carpet looked good for a week and then went grey again, nobody cleaned it badly. They just never took the soap back out.

What backs a machine on your floor?

Carpet is expensive to replace. Here is what sits behind the job.

Fibre tested first

Wool and synthetic never get the same product.

Rinsed until clear

Even when it adds a pass per room.

Drying gear in winter

Run during the job, not left behind.

Honest about old marks

Dye damage gets named before we start.

What do Melbourne customers say about us?

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Melbourne?

Quoted by room rather than rate carded, and here is why.

Rooms and stairs

How many rooms, hallways and flights, plus anything built in or fixed down.

Fibre and condition

Wool or synthetic, how long since the last clean, and what has been spilled on it.

Written quote

A fixed price per room with anything separate, like heavy edge soiling, named.

Booked and done

With a real drying time and a photo report when we finish.

A room rate tells you nothing without the fibre and the condition. A neglected wool hallway and a new synthetic bedroom are not the same job. Quoting them the same means one of you is being overcharged.

What gets booked on the same visit?

Cheaper together than as separate call-outs.

Edge soiling at the skirtings

The grey line, done with edge tools.

Pet odour treatment

Treats the underlay, not just the pile.

Carpet protector

Reapplied after cleaning on request.

What do Melbourne customers ask about carpet cleaning?

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Melbourne?

It is quoted by room after we know the fibre and the condition. A neglected wool hallway and a new synthetic bedroom are not the same job, so a flat room rate always overcharges one of them. Tell us the room count and when it was last done.

Why did my carpet get dirty faster after the last clean?

Usually because the detergent was never fully rinsed out. Residue left in the pile stays sticky and grabs the next fortnight of foot traffic. Rinsing is the slowest part of the job, so we never skip it.

How long does carpet take to dry?

Drying times vary with the carpet, the weather and the airflow, and they run longer through a Melbourne winter. The pile feels dry well before the underlay does, and damp underlay is what makes a room smell musty weeks later. We extract hard, run air movers during the job and give you a real time for moving furniture back.

Do you clean wool carpet?

Yes, and we test the fibre before anything goes down. Wool needs pH neutral chemistry, because strong alkaline products yellow it permanently and nothing reverses that. Wool blends get treated as wool, since the wool content is what takes the damage.

Will old stains come out?

Some will and some will not. Spills sitting on the fibre usually lift out completely. Bleach, medications and sun fade change the fibre colour itself, and we name those before we start.

Is steam cleaning better than dry cleaning?

We use hot water extraction, because it rinses soil out of the pile. Dry methods have their place for a quick refresh between proper cleans. The difference is that extraction removes soil rather than moving it around.

How often should carpet be cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months for a normal household, and every 6 to 12 with pets or young children. Grit brought in on shoes cuts the fibre if it stays in the pile. Regular cleaning extends the life of the carpet rather than just improving the look.

Do you move the furniture?

We move what can be moved safely and clean under it. Anything heavy, fragile or built in stays where it is and we work around it. Tell us at quote stage if a room needs emptying and we will factor the time in.

We stay until it's right

Our cleaners don't leave until you're happy with the work. For end of lease cleans, if you're not satisfied and tell us within 72 hours, we come back and re-clean.
